Designer & Educator
I have made a chart below that summarises the relationship between my studio experience and my teaching experience. As a designer I developed a unique approach which I also bring to my approach as a teacher. Active learning as a designer/artist means that I am reacting as a teacher and this is also represented at the bottom of the diagram in the creative process where I amend and refine in the studio and based on feedback do the same in the classroom through trying new methods depending on the reaction of students. The double diamonds creative process is equally transportable to the classroom where the phases are very easily applied. And finally where the customer is a significant stakeholder in the studio process he/she is replaced by the student in the classroom but the ability to communicate to and elicit a relative is a very similar process. As for my identity, I was surprised at my realisations in response to my self analysis and experiences as a feel a large part of my unique self lies within the similarities of these two roles as opposed to the conflict in identity one might feel over the other. This has furthered my self exploration and self development helping me reflect and progress as my own unique person as a designer, an education and as a designer who is an educator.
